A bilingual Christmas!
« en: Noviembre 05, 2015, 11:17:51 am »
"Christmas is a-coming and the geese are getting fat..."

I'd like to make a suggestion that we work on our "bilingual Christmas" this year with lots of appropriate English phrases our children can use.

I've dusted off last year's Christmas pages from English Spanish Link and added some new pics and stuff but I hope you'll also contribute. Your children are now getting more chatty in English so there are lots of things we could do:

1) Insert Mp3 recordings of children singing Christmas carols.
2) Mp3's of talking about Christmas with your children. Why they like Christmas, etc.
3) Written anecdotes from parents about Christmas with our children. "I remember one Christmas when..."
4) Christmas drawings and paintings from your children to upload.

I'd like to have a virtual Christmas Tree picture on a web page and visual, written and oral contributions in the form of links inserted around it together with pictures (I've yet to design that page). It'll be a way for us to come together at Christmas, sit around the tree and share anecdotes and listen to each other's children. We'll just be missing the mince pies!  :)

Meanwhile, please ask about any phrases or words in English re. Christmas you're not sure about on this thread:

Some expressions can be seen on this Christmas page voiced by my then four-year old daughter:

and Christmas carols:

Hope to hear your opinions or further ideas.

Mike

A bilingual Christmas Tree for all!
« Respuesta #4 en: Diciembre 16, 2015, 08:19:37 pm »
Ok. So here it is! Our bilingual Christmas Tree!

Open the page and look under the tree. Ther are some goodies there! You can read Carmen's comments on each one by holding your cursor over each icon. Then click on the icon to see the picture enlarged. Carmen also sings "Away in a manger". I look forward to your contributions if you'd like to add them under the tree: pictures, songs, talking about Christmas, etc. Just send them to my email.

Merry Christmas and a joyous bilingual New Year to all forum members.

What a great idea, Mike! I wish I could contribute with something myself, but like Laura's daughter, mine is too small to even understand what Christmas is about. She knows Santa, but she doesn't know he'll be bringing presents (along with the 3 Wise Men), just that when he sees a man all dressed in red and white with a long white beard, that's Santa... haha. I've been playing Christmas songs too, but she's still only singing Twinkle twinkle and asking for others that aren't related to Christmas. Hopefully next year! I have to go to her nursery school later today and sing a Christmas carol (all parents are asked to do something, each on a different day in December, and this was my 'task'). I'm going with Deck the Halls and taking a cheat sheet with me just in case, haha. Wish me luck!

Looking forward to all of your contributions. And thanks again Mike for starting this thread. Love the idea!
