Judith and I write to thank you both very much for all your kindness and hospitality last week end. The whole wedding went off marvellously well, both in church and at the reception and we all enjoyed it very much. I cannot imagine how Geoffrey and Samantha could have had a better send off. They will be able to remember their wedding day with pleasure for the rest of their lives.

We know from experience, however, that there is all the difference in the world between marrying off a daughter and marrying off a son ! Being on this occasion in the latter position, we were able just to relax and enjoy it all. You had all the work and the worry. Not least among your worries must have been the size of the Francis family and the extent of their appetite! As my grandfather used to say: "I would rather keep them a week than a fortnight."

It's all over now and we hope you have had time to recover from your exertions.
